Most people have a part of them that they do not like. For some people, it is their lips or their eyes. Other people want to change their profile a little by changing the shape of their nose. This can be done with a rhinoplasty at Cosmetic Surgical Arts Center in Lynnwood and Mount Vernon. Contact us today to schedule a consultation!
What does rhinoplasty involve?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is one of the most common and popular procedures. It can be reconstructive, in which the surgery is done on a birth defect or an injury like a broken nose. It can also be functional or cosmetic or both. In a functional rhinoplasty, our surgeon corrects a problem like a deviated septum that makes breathing unduly difficult. In a cosmetic rhinoplasty, our surgeon operates to improve the appearance of the patient’s nose by changing its size and/or shape.
This is usually an outpatient procedure, meaning that you can go home following the treatment. You will need to take some time for your nose to heal after your surgery.
During the procedure, the surgeon may do any of the following:
- Resize the nose so it is more proportionate with the rest of the patient’s face
- Smooth away bumps and depressions to improve the patient’s profile
- Reshape the nostrils
- Reshape the nasal tip
Depending on what is being done, a rhinoplasty can take one or two hours.
What is the recovery like?
Our surgeon will give the patient certain aftercare instructions to aid their recovery and prevent complications. While most patients can return to work about a week after the procedure, you should avoid strenuous activities like heavy lifting or aerobics for several weeks. Since eyeglasses and sunglasses put pressure on the nose, you should avoid wearing them for at least four weeks.
Who is a candidate for a rhinoplasty?
Typically, people who have finished their facial growth and are relatively healthy are candidates for this procedure. It is also advised to have realistic views on how a rhinoplasty will change your face before undergoing surgery.
