BOTOX® vs Xeomin® for Wrinkle Relaxation

Have you been noticing wrinkles and lines appearing on your face? Unfortunately, this is the result of aging. Collagen displaces in the hypodermis, leading to these small valleys growing as skin begins to grow looser.

These problems have a tendency to grow, as many of the most prominent wrinkles on the face tend to align with areas where muscles contract and expand. Something as simple as smiling, frowning, or even scowling can leave unwanted lines while encouraging existing wrinkles to become even more prominent.

Two treatments target the source of these wrinkles: BOTOX® and Xeomin®. Understanding the differences may allow you to acquire a treatment that reduces the visibility of wrinkles and other lines in your skin.

Understanding the Similarities

BOTOX® and Xeomin® are both treatments designed to paralyze muscles within the face to reduce the presence of wrinkles. They prevent cells near the injection site from receiving any electrical impulses.

Both BOTOX® and Xeomin® diminish the intensity of these signals, resulting in a localized effect where muscles do not move as much. This can encourage the body’s natural healing process that movement by the muscles may otherwise interrupt.

BOTOX® and Xeomin® Differences

The major difference between BOTOX® and Xeomin® occurs at a molecular level. BOTOX® has a protein bound to it that breaks down within minutes of being injected. Xeomin®, on the other hand, doesn’t have this protein bound to it. While this does allow Xeomin® to act more quickly than

BOTOX®, it can sometimes produce slightly less predictable results than BOTOX® would. The particles themselves are much smaller with Xeomin® than BOTOX®, which allows for less displacement to occur upon injection.

Is One Treatment Better than the Other?

BOTOX® and Xeomin® are designed to treat identical conditions and produce almost identical results. The only real difference between BOTOX® and Xeomin® concerns the volume of each treatment that is injected into the patient’s skin.

Some patients have remarked that Xeomin® injections, given the greater efficiency per unit over BOTOX®, may be more comfortable to receive.
