Deciding Between Kybella and a Neck-Lift

If you’re unhappy with the extra skin on your neck or the stubborn fat under your chin that you just can’t seem to get rid of, you may have looked into steps you can take to get rid of it. Chances are your research introduced you to the injectable Kybella and the neck-lift procedure, and now you may be wondering which one you should choose. While each person is unique and a consultation with Dr. Wortham is the best way to decide which treatments would be best for you, we can help you learn a little more about each of these treatments.

Kybella

Kybella is a non-surgical way to remove stubborn chin fat using an injectable product that is, in fact, the only one approved by the FDA for treating this area under the chin. The injection consists of deoxycholic acid, which is a substance naturally found in the body that helps to absorb fat. Most patients need two to six treatments with a month between each one in order to achieve their desired results. Because it is not a surgery, there is no recovery time, and aside from a little tenderness or swelling, the side effects are minimal, so you can return to your normal routine right away.

Neck-Lift Surgery

The first thing to consider when deciding between these two options is if you are willing to undergo a surgical procedure for the results you want. There is obviously a much more extensive recovery time anytime surgery is involved. If you’re OK with that, a neck-lift can provide incredible results and treat more than just fat under the chin. If loose skin or lax muscles are also a problem, a neck-lift is probably the best procedure for you. The results last anywhere between five and 10 years.
