FAQs About Brazilian Butt-Lifts

Brazilian Butt-Lifts are taking the cosmetic surgery industry by storm. Many patients call us asking how the procedure works and if they’re a good candidate to enhance their buttocks area using this method. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Brazilian Butt-Lift.

Why Is It Called a Brazilian Butt-Lift?

No, you don’t have to go to Brazil to get a butt-lift, even though the name seems to imply it. There’s actually some speculation about the exact origins of the name, but it’s suggested that a television feature titled “Building the Brazilian Butt” that showed the procedure on a Brazilian patient may be the reason for the name.

What Is a Brazilian Butt-Lift?

A Brazilian Butt-Lift is an alternative to butt implants that uses fat from another area of the patient’s body to enhance the buttocks area.

What Happens During the Surgery?

The first part of the procedure involves removing fat from an area of the body such as the back, thighs or stomach. Then, the fat is processed and injected into the buttocks strategically for the best shape.

How Long Is the Recovery?

Recovery varies from patient to patient, but most Brazilian Butt-Lift patients need to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks and take around two weeks off from work. A compression garment can be worn for six weeks in order to help with bruising and swelling, as well.

How Long Do the Results Last?

There’s no way to keep all the transferred fat from being absorbed by the body, but most patients retain about 70 percent of it. After six months, the fat that is retained is permanent as long as there are no major fluctuations in weight.
