A Prescription for Longer, Fuller Lashes

Latisse

Glamorous, gorgeous lashes have never been more in demand than today. With “lash bars” that specialize in applying individual lashes by hand popping up all over the country, it’s never been easier to have the lashes you’ve always dreamed of. The problem with “lash bars” is that the initial appointment is expensive and takes hours, and you have to go back in every two weeks for a fill just like with acrylic nails.

Enter Latisse, a prescription serum that works by stimulating the cells responsible for eyelash growth. Its discovery was actually an accident when patients being treated for glaucoma began noticing their eyelashes growing after a few weeks of using the medicated drops.

The serum is applied once a day to the skin at the base of the upper lashes, like applying an eyeliner you can’t actually see. It can be applied in the morning or evening, but most patients prefer morning as less serum is wiped away on your pillow as you drift off to sleep.

Don’t expect to wake up the next morning with an extra inch of lash, though. The serum works in two parts or phases. The first lengthens lashes while the second increases the number of lashes. It typically takes eight to 10 weeks to see full growth and improved thickness. Our patients all say it’s definitely worth the wait. In trials, 91 percent of those who participated saw double the lash fullness after 16 weeks of applying the serum. The results speak for themselves.
