‘Tech Neck’ Is Real, but We Have the Solution

June 15, 2018 by Maluhia Shaw

We spend more hours of the day staring at our phones, laptops, tablets and computers than ever before. Constantly looking down at these devices is actually leading to a phenomenon many are calling “Tech Neck.” “Tech Neck” causes wrinkles, folds, fine lines and sagging skin in the neck area. Basically, all the time we’re spending staring down into our hands or laps may be causing the skin on our necks to age at a faster rate than in the past.

How to Prevent ‘Tech Neck’

If you’re worried about signs of aging on your neck from staring at your device all day, there are a few things you can do to try and minimize the side effects of your tech habits. To start with, consider changing how you hold your device. Instead of leaning your head down to look at the screen, try lifting the phone or tablet to eye level. If you are using a computer or laptop, get a stand that goes on top of your desk or work station that will raise the screen to eye level. Simply adjusting the angle will not only help improve your skin, but your neck muscles will also thank you.

Treating ‘Tech Neck’

If years of tech use or simply aging has left you less than happy with the way your neck or under-chin area looks, we can help. For a temporary fix, Botox can be used in the neck to help soften the lines and make them less visible for a few months. If you want a permanent solution with big results, a neck-lift is likely your best solution.

A neck-lift, or lower rhytidectomy, improves the look of the jawline and neck in patients who are unhappy with the signs of aging that have begun to appear in those areas. It can help treat fatty deposits under the chin, loose skin, muscle banding, and excess skin and fat that creates jowls.

For more information about the procedure, visit our neck-lift page; to schedule a consultation, call us today at 425-744-7771.
