What is the Recovery Like After a Facelift?

November 16, 2015 by

facelift

What to expect during the recovery period of your facelift surgery may be worrisome to you. That’s to be expected. Taking proper care of yourself and following the surgeon’s guidelines are an important part of your procedure’s overall success.

You’ll receive a consultation after your surgery, as well as post-op instructions. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and can always call if uncertainties arise.

Here is a summary of the recovery period to set your mind at ease.

A Week of Rest

During the first 24 hours after your facelift procedure, you will need to have a caregiver stay with you for maximum safety. You are likely to be very tired and will have some bruising. Just take it easy during this period.

It’s recommended that you begin to move around for short periods when you feel you are able to quicken recovery.

Seeing Progress in Week Two

Your second week of recovery will be much the same as your first, though you will begin to see some alleviation of your bruising.

You’ll return to the surgeon’s office during this time to have your staples removed and for a follow-up exam.

You can begin to engage in a bit more activity such as walking around the block, but you will not be ready to return to work yet.

Weeks Three and Four Bring Normalcy

During the third and fourth week after surgery is when you’ll begin to see significant improvement in your incision sites.

There may still be slight bruising, but you should be able to return to work and your everyday routine. Even exercise is okay, as long as you don’t go overboard.

Incisions may be pink or red in color, and it may take some more time until you begin to see marks slowly begin to fade. Scars won’t heal completely for about a year.

Results After Day 30

At about a month post-op, those around you will hardly notice any scarring or bruising. You may want to avoid extensive exposure to the sun for a while and be sure to let our office know of any issues that may cause concern.

Recovery after a facelift is most extensive during the first two weeks. If you’re interested in a facelift, contact Cosmetic Surgical Arts Center today to schedule a consultation. We will be happy to review your cosmetic goals and share details about the procedure so that you can make an informed decision.
